The legislative field of Water Quality in Spain is a paradigm in terms of prevention and protection of Public Health and its National System.
The implementation of new legal texts recently consolidated (Royal Decree 3/2023, of 10 January, establishing the technical-sanitary criteria for the quality of drinking water, its control and supply and Royal Decree 1085/2024, of 22 October, approving the Regulation on water reuse and modifying various royal decrees regulating water management) implies a critical and deontological reflection by the working groups in charge of their implementation, being necessary a previous reflection in terms of legal transposition, execution and monitoring of results. The aim of this letter to the author is to instil a reflection in the aforementioned groups with the objective of evaluating in each specific scenario/installation the best solution with the aim of safeguarding Public Health without compromising other legal aspects, both environmental and occupational risk prevention.
